TFH Community Health Network Expands Legacy of Helping NYC Families
Founded in 1866 as NYC's first pediatric clinic, The Floating Hospital has helped over 5 million New Yorkers create a healthier and more hopeful future for themselves and their children. Today, our mission continues to be based on the belief that all New Yorkers deserve quality health care -- delivered with respect and compassion.
In October 2006, TFH launched a new era by opening a 6,000 square foot land-based main clinic site in Long Island City Queens. While still focusing at that time on charity care for the homeless, TFH received enthusiastic support from LIC public officials and community partners to make its comprehensive primary health care services available to all of its Northwest Queens neighbors, particularly the medically underserved residents of Queensbridge and Ravenswood Houses.
With stimulus funding received in 2009 from the American Recovery and Re-investment Act, TFH doubled the size of its LIC facility to include an adjacent -- and newly renovated / equipped -- 6,200 square foot clinic dedicated to serving the health care needs of the community. Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney provided the ribbon-cutting honors as Healthy LIC (a Federally Qualified Health Center) celebrated its Grand Opening in October 2009.
